The MC2 has higher capacity (56K vs 34K liters) due to a larger carbon block section. The MC2-R is the “value” version with a smaller carbon stage — same form factor, lower cost, proportionally shorter life.

MC2 Technical Deep-Dive

The MC2’s dual-stage architecture works as follows:

Water enters → Stage 1: 5 μm pleated sediment wrap
                    ↓
              Stage 2: 0.5 μm solid carbon block
                    ↓
              Filtered water exits (bayonet head)

The pleated sediment wrap is wound around the outside of the carbon block core. As water flows radially inward, it first passes through the sediment layer (catching sand, rust, silt), then through the carbon block (removing chlorine, taste, odor, and sub-micron particles).

Why this matters for compatible manufacturing: The sediment wrap must be properly bonded to the carbon block. If the bond fails, water bypasses the sediment stage and clogs the carbon block prematurely.

OEM-Compatible MC2 Quality Checks

1. Sediment wrap adhesion. The pleated wrap must be thermally bonded to the carbon block. Glued wraps fail in hot water (coffee machines run at 85–95°C inlet).
2. Differential pressure test. At 3.8 L/min, pressure drop across the cartridge should be 12–18 psi (new). Higher = carbon block too dense or sediment wrap too tight.
3. No bypass between stages. Water must not flow between the sediment wrap and carbon block. Factory must pressure-test each cartridge with dye.
4. End-cap integrity. The 15-inch body puts more stress on the bayonet connector. End-caps must be ultrasonically welded, not friction-fit.
